download.

New and changed information for Cisco Unified Application Environment
Release 2.5(1) SR1:

New Messaging Plugin

Enables communication between the Cisco Unified Application Environment
and the Cisco Unity Server or Cisco Unity Connection Server to allow
developers to programmatically read, create, and send voicemail.

Improved Event Notifications

New event handlers provide notification of provider or plugin status
changes and application script ends.

Improved SIP Failover Support

Enhanced SIP failover support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager
clusters with two nodes (one publisher and one subscriber).

CUAE Package Ignore Files List

Allows developers to specify files to exclude from the package installed
to the Application Server.

Core Addendum and Prerequisite Update

With this release, the core addendum includes an upgrade to Dialogic HMP
3.0 SU 225.

This upgrade is required for Cisco Unified Application Environment to
function properly due to an issue between previous version of Dialogic
HMP and the Windows 2003 Server SP2.

After many public betas and good times had by all, the Cisco Unified
Application Environment version 2.5(1) is available to download.

New and changed information for Cisco Unified Application Environment
Release 2.5(1):

Language and Integrated Development Environment Flexibility

With this release, the Cisco Unified Application Environment provides a
new set of powerful development tools and provides expanded access to
APIs:
o Popular languages (Java, C#) for writing to Unified Communications
APIs can now be used.
o APIs, which were previously only accessible from inside the Cisco
Unified Application Server, can be accessed by developers over the
network using new Etch technology.
o Network connection over the Etch Bridge supports Transport Layer
Security (TLS).

Enhanced Developer Experience

These enhancements to the developer experience have been made:
o Because language and network barriers have been removed, developers
can now use their IDE and application container of choice for Cisco
Unified Application Environment development.
o Cisco Unified Application Environment APIs are now documented in
Javadoc and C#, and are installed to the developer machine with the
Developer Tools installer.
o A new developer community includes extensive example applications, API

New Messaging Plugin

o Developers can download a new plugin to build applications that
interact with Cisco Unity and Cisco Unity Connection, Release 7.0. The

Enhanced Administration Experience

SSL Cisco Unified Application Environment Administration

Interface
The Cisco Unified Application
Environment uses OpenSSL to provide HTTPS secure client access to the
Cisco Unified Application Environment Administration web interface. You
can upload your own SSL certificate and private key or use the interface
to generate a certificate and key. You can also enable or disable SSL
and restart the Apache web service via the user interface. For more

Cisco IP Phone Services Validation

By default, Cisco Unified Application
Environment validates data from applications using the IP Phone Service
API against the IPPS XSD. To disable this validation, set the value for
the IncludeCiscoIpPhoneServicesValidation key in the
AppServerService.exe.config or AppServer.exe.config file to false.

End of SW Maintenance Releases Date: App. SW - February 27, 2010

New and changed information for Cisco Unified Application Environment
Release 2.5(1) Beta 3:

Updated Installers

The installers have been updated to make installs and updates easier and
to include newer versions of third-party applications. Specifically:

Production installers are now available for internal testing.

The production Core Addendum installer now includes HMP 3.0

SU214 and NeoSpeech 3.7. NOTE: SDK users must manually upgrade to these
newer versions of HMP and NeoSpeech before installing 2.5(1) Beta 3.

The production Core Addendum installer is now used for both

fresh installs and upgrades from 2.4.

Management Service adds support for TLS

In 2.5(1) Beta 2, we added support for TLS encryption and authentication
of communication between the CUAE command-line tool and the Management
Service API. With 2.5(1) Beta 3, we now also provide tools to make it
easier to enable authentication. For more information about
configuration options, see Management Service TLS.

Configurable Application Server Startup Timeout Value

Customers running a large number of applications can now configure the
Application Server Startup Timeout value to prevent the server from
timing out on startup. To do so, follow these procedures:

1. Open one of the following files on the Application Server as
appropriate for your environment:

%CUAE_HOME%/AppServerService.config-For environments running

the Application Server as a Windows service (the default).

%CUAE_HOME%/AppServer.exe.config-For environments running the

Application Server from the command line.

for download.

New and Changed Information for Cisco Unified Application Environment
for Release 2.5 Beta II:

*Easier upgrades with locked .Net assemblies
The version of the Cisco Unified Application Environment Framework Core
Assemblies (.NET assemblies) has been locked so that developers do not
have to rebuild their projects every time the Cisco Unified Application
Environment platform changes version.

*Streamlined production installation and initial setup
The verification of the Cisco Unified Application Environment service
user password in the production (non-SDK) installers has been
streamlined. In addition, the Cisco Unified Application Environment
Administration interface now walks the administrator through the basic
setup required for the Cisco Unified Application Server and the Cisco
Unified Media Engine.

*Transport Layer Security (TLS) for the Cisco Unified Application
Environment Management Service and Etch Bridge
The Cisco Unified Application Environment command-line tool and the
Cisco Unified Application Environment Administration now consume the
Management Service API using TLS. The Etch-based applications and
plugins now connect to the Etch Bridge using TLS. TLS encryption is
enabled by default, but authentication is not. Developers must add a TLS
parameter to connection URIs for applications and plugins to work
properly.

*KeepAlive support added for Etch Bridge
To rapidly detect connection failures, the Etch KeepAlive message filter
periodically checks the health of the client-server connection, and
resets it if it is not responsive. By default, KeepAlive messages are 15
seconds apart, and if four KeepAlive messages fail, the connection is
reset. The default delay and number of attempts can be configured.
Developers must add a KeepAlive filter to their connection URIs.

*MaxPacketSize support added for Etch Bridge
By default, Etch sets the MaxPacketSize at 16KB for applications and
plugins, and the Etch Bridge defaults to 100KB. The smaller of the two
is the default. To change the MaxPacketSize to 100KB, the developer must
add a MaxPacketSize parameter to their connection URIs.

*Management API procedures updated
File upload and download procedures within the Management API have been
updated into a uniform usage pattern.These procedures are used for
downloading logs, archives, MIBs, and statistical plot files as well as
uploading applications, plugins, and license files.

To take advantage of this public beta:

STEP - 1 -- Register at Cisco.com
If you are not yet a registered guest at Cisco.com, you will need sign
up to be able to download software, participate in the mailing lists and
to open issues. Go to http://tools.cisco.com/RPF/register/register.do
and sign up for your free guest account if you do not already have an
account at Cisco.com

STEP - 2 -- Signup to the new mailing lists
After registering, sign up for the new mailing lists. If you are
interested in trying out the public beta release(s), you should sign up
to the new "CUAE Beta" list. The "CUAE Beta" list will be the forum we
use to communicate with the developer community about all issues related
to beta releases. Go to http://developer.cisco.com/web/cuae/mailer and
sign up.

STEP - 3 -- Download the Software
Once you are registered with Cisco.com and you have signed up for the
mailing list, you should download the software. The software may be
downloaded from the developer portal here:

STEP - 4 -- Open Bugs and Enhancement Requests
Finally, no pre-release software is perfect, bugs are expected. When you
find a bug or are having trouble with a feature that just doesn't work
quite the way it should, open an issue in our new issues tracking system
at the developer portal. Go to
http://developer.cisco.com/web/cuae/issues and open new issues and we
will do our best to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

[Cuae-announce] New Developer Portal and first Preview Release for CUAE 2

All,

As promised at the Developer Conference last month, the first preview
release for Cisco Unified Application Environment version 2.5 is
available for download.

*This is pre-release software and should not be used in production
environments*.

Key features of version 2.5:

new Administration Console and Management Service

Etch-based applications and plug-ins

Also, we are proud to announce the unveiling of our new Developer Portal
at http://developer.cisco.com/web/cuae . This portal maintains our new
public wiki and issue tracker as well as a growing library of documents,
presentations and example code. Expect rapid growth in portal content
over the coming weeks including the complete videos from the 2008
conference!

So...
