I would expect that to work, with the possible caveat that the device model and protocol (SIP/SCCP) would need to be identical. Note I don't think this is going to work if you are trying to do a name change on one physical phone - the phone attempts to register using name 'SEP[MAC]' using its hardware MAC, regardless of UCM configuration. However in the use-case of a user replacing a broken deskphone with the same model, I would expect just changing the name to work.

If I wish to use the AXL interface to change the MAC address of a phone device with name "SEPDEADBEEF0000" with a new MAC address of "123456789ABC" do I use updatePhone, specifying name=SEPDEADBEEF0000 and newName=SEP123456789ABC? Does this then make the device name SEPDEADBEEF0000 disappear, and a device with name=SEP123456789ABC / MAC=123456789ABC with all the "old" configuration information intact?
