When changing the guest OS password of root, you may encounter an Authentication token manipulation error. This message occurs because the /etc/shadow file is not present. You can add the shadow file by entering 'pwconv', then the root password can be set. See the example below.

Is there an easy way to tell what attributes my development authorization cert contains - e.g., what capabilites categories are available to me?
 
I don't recall requesting any particular level of authorization when I initially request my cert, but judging from a number of posts here, it seems that many folks have the kernel_admin authorization without having specifically requested it.

HI Bill,

Most partners are issued authorization bundles with basic access rights. Additional privileges may be given after a request is made to our marketing team via ask-axp-pm@cisco.com and providing a business case. For example, kernel level privileges may be provided when kernel modules need to be inserted for additional functionality. The access privilege levels are: basic, guest, host and kernel. You can check the rights provided in your authorization bundle by untarring the gzipped bundle and viewing the capabilities.xml file in the platform directory. The Advanced Featues Guide provided in http://developer.cisco.com/web/axp/docs provides additional details of these privileges and their use.
