A medianet is a network optimized for video and rich media. Medianets will accelerate the delivery of visual networking resulting in compelling new experiences for consumers, new revenue opportunities for service providers, new ways to collaborate in the enterprise, and new business models for content providers. 

 

The medianet represents the evolution of converged IP networks. This evolution consists of adding new medianet technologies, which are services added to existing devices as well as new classes of devices. Services are added to routers, switches, and rich-media endpoints. The medianet technologies deliver the media-, endpoint-, and network-aware capabilities that conventional IP networks lack.
