Zxing and barcode reading with the Cius

Has anyone successfully done barcode scanning on the Cius?  My test app integrates ZXing via it's barcode scanner app and intents, but it uses the rear-facing camera, which apparently doesn't have auto focus, so it can't obtain a scannable image.  Any developers done barcode scanning, and if so, are there any pointers you'd like to share?

The first generation wifi Cius has a hard time with bar-code scanning due to the fixed-focus camera, as you mention.  The newer 4G capable version does include an improved camera with auto-focus - bar-code scanning works fine on this model.

EDIT: Since my device is a loaner, how can one tell if they have a 4G model?
