Q: I cannot sideload apps on my Cius. How do I change the "Allow 3rd party apps" setting?

The 3rd party apps setting is controlled by the device configuration in UCM. Connect your device to the basic Cius lab. When your device registers with UCM, this setting will be enabled.

Q: I cannot enable USB debugging on my Cius. How do I change this setting?

This setting is controlled by the device configuration in UCM. Connect your device to the basic Cius lab. When your device registers with UCM, this setting will be enabled.

Q: What servers are available in the basic Cius lab?

  • Unified Communications Manager 8.6
  • Cisco unified Presence 8.5

Q: What servers are available in the enhanced Cius lab?

  • Unified Communications Manager 8.6
  • Cisco unified Presence 8.5
  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5

Q: Do Users have admin access to the servers in a Basic UC environment?

No. The Basic UC lab is designed for partners who want to connect "on the fly" to a UC environment. Registration and Presence services are provided to remote users but no rights are provided to change any configuration on any server. An example of when to use the basic setup would be for Cius upgrades and to test simple calls / presence. NOTE: This is the same for the enhanced Cius lab. As both basic and enhanced environments are shared among users, it is not feasible to grant access to the servers.

Q: What are the connection options available for the enhanced Cius or Rich UC lab?

There are two options available

  • Software VPN

This is an IPsec VPN tunnel initiated from the user's laptop or server to the enhanced Cius lab. The connection can be initiated using Cisco VPN client or Anyconnect VPN. Due to its flexibility and ease of use, Anyconnect is the preferred method. All Cisco Cius devices have Anyconnect built-in so it is easy to connect to the enhanced Cius lab from the tablet. Once the tunnel is up, the user can register a softclient (IP communicator or CUPC) and set up IM/presence.

  • Hardware VPN

This Method uses a dedicated Cisco Router at the partner site to terminate the enhanced Cius lab VPN connection. The user can then plug a laptop or phones into the inside interfaces of the router and are directly connected to the lab. This method is often preferred if the partner wants many Cisco hardphones registered at their site. Also, if Video is required remotely, Hardware VPN is recommended as all media will remain local through the router, keeping picture quality high. Partners with multiple Cius devices can use a Wi-Fi enabled router to initiate the VPN connection and broadcast Wi-Fi. The Cius can then be connected to the Wi-Fi SSID. This cuts out the necessity of setting up Anyconnect on each individual device.

Q: I need Hardware VPN but I don't have a router. What do I do?

An 800 series Wi-Fi enabled router can be purchased from Cisco. However, we do provide a loaner service in certain circumstances where we send out a preconfigured router to the partner for the duration of testing. Also, if a partner has any spare Cisco routers available, we can provide configuration assistance so that it can be used.  Write to us at CiscoLabsRouterSupport@Cisco.com if you need assistance configuring your Cisco router for testing purposes.

Q: Give me examples of where I would use the different types of environments?

  • Basic UC lab:
  • Cius Firmware Upgrade
  • Demos of calls, presence and IM
  • Enhanced UC lab:
  • Demos of calls, presence and voice mail
  • Rich UC lab
  • Complex integrations with UC servers
  • Load testing

Q: How do I book time in each of these lab types

The basic and enhanced UC labs are both used by a number of partners at the same time.

The basic lab is self service. Just follow the instructions to connect to the basic Cius lab.

The enhanced Cius lab requires account setup. You can request access to the enhanced lab here.

You can learn about the Rich UC Labs that are available through the CDN Sandbox portal here, and request access here.

Q: Is WebEx available in the lab?

We are currently installing a WebEx environment in the Rich UC lab for partners who need complex integration and admin rights to the servers.  Access to this lab will be made available through the Collaboration Developer Sandbox pages.

Q: What number can I dial to test a call on my Cius?

Q: What is the difference between the enhanced Cius lab and a Rich UC environment?

The primary difference between the two is that Rich UC is a dedicated lab for the partner and is not shared with anyone else. Users of this lab will have complete admin rights to all of the servers. This option is aimed at partners who are performing complex integrations with UC. Also a partner server can be provided in the DMZ specifically for the partner application.

Q: What is Galeforce?

Galeforce is an online application that allows users to login and book time on the Cisco Rich UC labs and that include the enhanced Cius lab. Once the reservation is made, the UC servers are built out in the Cisco UCS environment and then put on a network ID unique to the partner. All servers can then be accessed through links on the portal. Throughout testing, the partner has the opportunity to back up current UC server configuration. They can then come back in a later date, load this config and continue where they left off. The reservation time can also be extended if required. For a quick view of the Galeforce portal, goto http://ravelabs.cisco.com and login as Demo1 / Demo1. This will allow you to look around the site as a guest. No booking are possible with these credentials.
