What is the Cius Sandbox?

The Cius Sandbox (previously called RAVE) allows developers to access Cisco Voice Services, and Cisco IM & Presence resources from the Cius device and to register Cisco UC endpoints including Cius and CUPC.


The Cius Sandbox lab offers several types of access to developers:

Basic Cius Lab

The Basic Cius lab is available to all developers with a Cius device. The Basic Cius lab is the quickest way to connect your Cius to a Cisco Unified Communications Manager system. Access to the basic Cius lab is completely self-service and does not require waiting for any approval or confirmation. The lab provides the following user services:

  • No account setup required. Available to all developers.
  • Registration to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM)
  • *Cisco Cius firmware and OS upgrades
  • Basic call processing
    • Cius initiated call to an IP Phone
    • Calls between 2 or more Cius devices.

The Enhanced Cius lab is available to all developers with a Cius device. However, we do need some additional information from you to grant this type of access. This type of lab requires some setup. The time required to setup up an account is typically 1-3 days.

The lab provides the following user services:

  • Account setup required.
  • Registration to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM)
  • *Cisco Cius firmware and OS upgrades
  • Basic call processing
    • Cius initiated call to an IP Phone
    • Calls between multiple Cius devices
    • Calls between Cius Device and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
  • Instant messaging and Presence between multiple Cius devices.
  • Cisco Unified Presence (CUP) - for instant-messaging and presence API integration.

The Rich Unified Communications Lab is available to developers who are developing integrated solutions that use a broad range of Cisco technologies. The lab provides the following user services:

  • Registration to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM)
  • *Cisco Cius firmware and OS upgrades
  • Basic call processing
    • Cius initiated call to an IP Phone
    • Calls between multiple Cius devices
    • Calls between Cius Device and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
  • Cisco Unified Presence (CUP) - for instant-messaging and presence API integration.
  • Server hosting for server dependent applications
  • Internet connectivity for Cloud based services
  • Full Unified Communications administrative control of the lab.
  • The Rich UC lab is a private development environment. Resources in this lab are not shared with other developers.
  • Backup and Restore operations are available.

Next Steps:

*The Basic Cius lab is for use by Cius developers for development and testing of applications only. Enterprise users or developers should not register a production (enterprise provided) Cius to this lab and return it to the Enterprise network without a full device reset.
