Howdy, folks. Just a quick note to summarize my activities for the past little bit.

I think it might be a good idea for each of us to periodically report what we're up to as a way of keeping in touch and learning about each other.

James Dixson and I have been working to solidify the 1.0.1 release. The main topic of this release over 1.0.0 has been to clean up the build process and get more of the unit tests under automation. I also rewrote a good bit of the compiler command line processing to share more code with the ant plugin. etch.util.URL was missing some functionality in java, and the csharp version was missing even more. I fleshed both of them out and I hope they are now identical. Finally, I added support for names instead of hash codes in BinaryTaggedDataInput and -Output. This allows for more useful packet tracing using ethereal or whatever.

This completes the body of work needed for the next beta release of cuae 2.5.

My next focus will be on two areas:

  1. Interop test suite framework.
  2. Moving docs from the wiki to the source tree.

The Interop test suite framework is a framework and a pattern for a specifying service implementation and service client to be tested and with what connection parameters. We will use this to test etch implementations for group coherence under a variety of conditions. Anyone have any ideas or concerns, let me know.

The docs currently exist in the wiki and as such are a moving target. It is important to move the docs into the source tree so that they are tied to a specific version. Also we want to be able to build and package docs with each release as well as make them available on the etch web site. Apache Forrest seems to be the best vehicle to do this. I will be experimenting with Forrest and its tools.

In just over a week we will be out at the Communications Developers Conference (cdc 2008, sept 16th - 18th) in Los Angeles for a few days. Y'all c'mon out and see us.
