Our customer recently upgraded
their CUAE environment from CUAE STD 2.4 to CUAE STD 8.5. I have attached (4)
screen shots of their current environment for your review. The customer has
requested an additional (20) licenses to increase the concurrent application
sessions. This has posed several questions that I am seeking assistance with.
In screen shot 01,  the Application Sessions is 50 Max and they are
licensed for 43. Here are my questions:

1.       To add (20) more application session lics to this
environment, will I need to upgrade to the Enhanced version of CUAE 8.5?
2.       If yes to 1, my assumption is that I would sell the
upgrade part number L-UAE8.5-S-E-UPG and this would increase their MAX
concurrent sessions from 50 to 100.

They are currently licensed for (43 ), what would the
license count be post upgrade to Enhanced?

This question was pretty far outside our scope here in the PO but I was hoping to find this partner an answer nonetheless, any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Hi Umesh,

You can configure one CUAE as the master and the other as the standby server. It does not need any specific configuration on the CUCM side. Only the concerned CUAE servers need to be configured. The configuration can be done on System-&gt;Redundancy page of both the servers.  Once the two servers are configured as master and standby, both the servers will start sending heartbeat messages to each other and it means that the configuration is successful. Now the standby is ready to register the devices to the CUCM in case the master crashes.

But there is an issue. The redundancy feature with CUAE is not complete yet. Till now only the devices are supported on the master/server redundancy. Say if the master goes down while an application is executing, then the standby server will only be able to register the devices in its device pools to the CUCM. It won't be able to keep the application running. Apart from this you will not be able to run the application with the settings you configured on the master server.

Precisely, the redundancy feature available with CUAE is not complete. We'll take this as a request and complete the redundancy related features in our forthcoming releases.

I would appreciate some assistance in clarifying the licence structure
for Application Server in a "production environment".

I have a client interested in using the CUAE for development of a
message storage and retrieval (text only) solution, I am trying to
figure out exactly what type of licensing would be appropriate. I have
looked at the table on the data sheet, and I would just like to
clarify the terminology and variations available in the documentation.

First of all in reference to the terminology used to differentiate the
different license types (i.e. premium, enhanced and standard) I am not
sure I understand what is refereed to specifically by "licensed
application instances per server". Is this just a limitation to the
number of "different" applications that can be resident and run from
on server, or is this more complex than that ?

Additionally I would like some clarification between what the "Unified
AppServer 2.3 Instance xxx-Pack" are, I am assuming that they are
additional license packs that can be added on to either the enhanced
or standard licence to increase either the concurrent instances or
licensed application instance per server, but I would like some
clarification on this too if possible.

Thanks

    <summary type="html">Hi Umesh,

The number of licenses required will depend on the customer's requirement that how many application sessions, Calls or media actions does he intend to run simultaneously. Say if there is going to be a peak scenario of 250 applications being triggered then the license should be enough for supporting 250 simultaneous application sessions and corresponding calls and media(RTP) actions.

When you ask about supporting x number of devices, what do you want to do to these devices using CUAE? Do you want to place calls to these devices using the CUAE or are you planning to put these devices in the CUAE's monitored device pool. Here, as per the usage, the license requirement will change.

The CUAE can support the fllowing :

Application sessions: 9999(MAX)
Voice Ports: 240
RTP Ports: 240
Enhanced RTP ports: 240
Conference Ports: 240
Speech Integration ports: 240
TTS Ports: 60

Under peak conditions, the behaviour of the MCS boxes differ. It depends on their h/w configuration. Some machines eat up more CPU usage as compared to the other machines under the same conditions. We have a BHCA and CPU usage comparison of some standard MCS boxes. Please let me know if you need those.

* Cisco IP Phone Services Validation

By default, Cisco Unified Application
Environment validates data from applications using the IP Phone Service
API against the IPPS XSD. To disable this validation, set the value for
the IncludeCiscoIpPhoneServicesValidation key in the
AppServerService.exe.config or AppServer.exe.config file to false.

You can access the latest Cisco IPPS XSD
here: http://developer.cisco.com/web/cdc/library
&lt;http://developer.cisco.com/web/cdc/library&gt; . The XML Schema (XSD) is
located under the "IP Phone Services (IPPS)" section on this page.

For more details about these changes, such as configuration options and
instructions for application and plugin developers, see the Cisco
Unified Application Environment 2.5(1) Beta 4 details at the following

Cisco Unified Application Environment version 2.5(1) Beta 3 is available
to download.

This is pre-release software and should not be used in production
environments.

New and changed information for Cisco Unified Application Environment
Release 2.5(1) Beta 3:

Updated Installers
The installers have been updated to make installs and updates easier and
to include newer versions of third-party applications. Specifically:

Production installers are now available for internal testing.

The production Core Addendum installer now includes HMP 3.0
SU214 and NeoSpeech 3.7. NOTE: SDK users must manually upgrade to these
newer versions of HMP and NeoSpeech before installing 2.5(1) Beta 3.

The production Core Addendum installer is now used for both
fresh installs and upgrades from 2.4.

Management Service adds support for TLS
In 2.5(1) Beta 2, we added support for TLS encryption and authentication
of communication between the CUAE command-line tool and the Management
Service API. With 2.5(1) Beta 3, we now also provide tools to make it
easier to enable authentication. For more information about
configuration options, see Management Service TLS.

Configurable Application Server Startup Timeout Value
Customers running a large number of applications can now configure the
Application Server Startup Timeout value to prevent the server from
timing out on startup. To do so, follow these procedures:

1. Open one of the following files on the Application Server as
appropriate for your environment:

%CUAE_HOME%/AppServerService.config-For environments running
the Application Server as a Windows service (the default).

%CUAE_HOME%/AppServer.exe.config-For environments running the
Application Server from the command line.

2. Locate and modify the value in the following line:

&lt;add key="ApplicationServerStartupTimeout" value="240000"/&gt;
