Can¿t recall the name of the role off hand, but if you go to your user page, select ¿Roles¿, it should be fairly obvious (I think it¿s something like ¿remote access¿ if I remember right). Assign yourself that role and try again. Also for testing you give yourself something greater than that if you wish, like ¿System Administrator¿. I¿d recommend going with the least possible rights for production though.

Thanks. I was trying a very simple API call by going to the following URL -

https://<server>/vmrest/users?rowsPerPage=0

I get a certificate error, which I ignore and then a HTTP digest auth dialog appears. I put in my username/password but I get a 403 error.

What sort of rights does the CUPI user need to have? Can you elaborate on that?

This is the error that is returned -

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><ErrorDetails><errors><code>DATA_EXCEPTION</code><message>A syntax error has occurred.</message></errors></ErrorDetails>
Tried both with rowsPerPage=0, and also with pageNumber=0 as per the docs. Both return the same error.

I tried HTTP & HTTPS as well. The HTTP redirects to HTTPS as you mention. However I get the same XML error message.

Can you post the XML response that you receive?

Well that is something like what I was expecting. Unfortunately I do not get the same result. Is this some sort of a configuration issue?

I think you are probably facing the issue because of the version number. The rowcount feature might have been an addition to a later release.
Can you issue your query without the rowcount, so something like -
GET http://<connection-server>/vmrest/users
