EnergyWise Introduction
Cisco EnergyWise is an IOS based software application that allows Cisco networks to control and perform energy management. The Cisco EnergyWise software enables customers to monitor, control and report on the energy use of building equipment and IT devices using a Cisco EnergyWise enabled network. More importantly, Cisco EnergyWise enables customers to set dynamic power policies that enable them to save money and reduce green house gas emissions when equipment is not in use. Cisco EnergyWise is part of IOS within Cisco Catalyst switches, ISR routers, and other equipment. A software toolkit is available for customers to communicate with a Cisco network to monitor and control EnergyWise information.
Cisco EnergyWise gives customers the ability to monitor and control AC powered devices like smart power distribution units, building systems, and PCs. It also allows customers to control the power consumption of networking equipment including routers, LAN switches, and connected Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices such as phones, access points, IP security cameras and door access equipment.
EnergyWise can orchestrate power control across a series of devices in the network. For example, when an employee badges into a building, his or her office lights, phone, PC and temperature can be automatically configured according to their user preference. This is one example of how EnergyWise can control energy usage and optimize building office costs.
