Technical Overview

Explore an expanded overview of Prime Home Compatible and the business benefits it provides.

Cisco Prime™ Home is a cloud-based network management platform based on the Broadband Forum's TR-069 suite of protocols for management of devices in the home.

Prime Home Compatible (PHC) is a self service interoperability program. It allows CPE partners to connect a new CPE to the Cisco Prime Home ACS, to debug interoperability issues, to select drivers, and to test the same high-level use cases that will be used during ACS/CPE operation. On successful completion of testing, the CPE partner can be confident that the CPE will work with the Cisco Prime Home ACS in the real world.

In this context, a driver is a software module that runs as part of the Cisco Prime Home ACS and which translates between ACS applications' logical (protocol-independent) data model and the CPE's TR-069 data model. If the CPE has been implemented according to Broadband Forum standards and Cisco's TR-069 best practices document then the standard drivers should work. However, if the CPE does not support all the necessary objects/parameters, a different driver may be needed, and indeed may need to be written. If a driver needs to be written, presently this service must be performed by Cisco. The future roadmap however is to allow CPE partners to write their own drivers.
