Hi

not sure if this is the place to post this.

A couple of questions around the service module architecture:

1) What is the physical processor type? Do it support nehalem? I have an application that needs this chipset
2) Beta documentation referances a module number of 910 -is this a replacement for the 900 module?

many thanks

Ismail

Hi Ismail,

The physical core processor along with other specifications of the SRE modules is provided on our web page here.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps10598/data_sheet_c78-553913.html

You can review more details about the SRE-900 core processor via this link.
http://ark.intel.com/products/36689/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-SL9400-%286M-Cache-1_86-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB%29

Regarding the 910 modules, yes it is an upgrade from the 900 module in that the disk rpm has increased from 5400 to 7200 an I/O performance increase of 2x to 3x.

Thanks,

Brett

Hi Ismail,

Can you share the name of the application that you are looking into supporting? Also, is the requirement for Nehalem based on the software running in a virtual environment (e.g., ESXi) or running on a native OS.

The reason I ask is that VMware normally requires a Nehalem class processor as a minimum for supporting vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi).

However, in the case of SRE-V, we were able to work with VMware through our OEM agreement to provide support for our distribution of vSphere Hypervisor on the specific Intel Core 2 Solo/Duo processors on the SRE700/SRE900 modules.

Best Regards,

John

The software I would like to run is the Virtual Mitel MCD call manager - yes I know - it is ironic :-)

I am told that it runs under ESXi and Vsphere using Xeon processors.

hope this does not kill the thread!

Thanks for confirming the application.

I looked at the Virtual Mitel MCD call manager datasheet and the application requires a processor with Hyperthreading enabled. The processors we use have VT extensions enabled, but do not have hyperthreading enabled; therefore UCS Express/SRE-V does not meet the minimum hardware requirements as outlined in their datasheet.

As an alternative, I encourage you to look at Cisco¿s Unified Communications solutions that are supported on the ISR and SRE modules.
