Each time the user logs into the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) web based graphic user interface or launches the Keyboard, VGA, Mouse (KVM) interface, a separate session is created to manage the data between that unique connection and the server. It is unlikely, but possible that all of these sessions maybe used when multiple users access the system in unison or if the system is not properly exited. The short article below provides steps for resolution should this issue occur.
If the user receives an "all sessions are in use" error message when logging into CIMC or when launching the KVM from within CIMC, the workaround is to clear existing sessions either from CIMC itself or from the Integrated Management Controller (IMC) command line interface. Assuming that the user is already logged into CIMC and launching the KVM is the issue, existing sessions can be cleared via CIMC by clicking on the 'Admin' tab, selecting 'User Management' from the menu, and then clicking on the 'Sessions' tab on the web page. On the 'Session' page, the user will see all of the existing sessions including those that may be terminated. The sessions can be ended by clicking on the 'Terminate' link.
If the user cannot log into CIMC because all sessions are being used, he can resolve this issue via the IMC command line interface. The first step is to telnet to the router, then session into the IMC via the command 'ucse <slot>/0 session imc'. Log into the interface with the same user/password used to access CIMC. Next type 'show user-session' to view the active sessions and their corresponding IDs. Access the session to be deleted by typing 'scope user-session <ID>'. Terminate the session by typing 'terminate' and pressing the return key. The scope can be exiting by typing 'exit'. Continue to access and terminate the desired sessions. The IMC session can be exited by pressing the 'Ctrl + Shift + 6' keys followed by 'x'. The IMC session can then be terminated by typing 'disconnect'.
