Yes, Windows 2008 R2 is natively supported. Could you tell me what is the exact error that you saw during installation? (A screenshot if possible.) You said you had ESXi installed on this blade before. Did you configure drives in any specific raid modes? Did you also try to clear raid configurations before trying the windows installation?

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your response. Could you follow the steps below before trying to install windows 2008 2 natively?

1. Clear raid configuration (From Inventory-> Storage tab->Virtual Drives)
2. Go to physical drive tab, all the 3 disks status will now show "Unconfigured good". please change their state individually for all the PDs to JBOD first (by click change state from the PD row's drop box) and then change it back to "Unconfigured Good"
3. Then go back to Virtual Drives tab and create the raid5 array.

After this step try to install the Windows 2008 R2. Let me know if you still see the error.

Currently "clear raid" option does not entirely clear and reset the partitions that ESXi has already created. So we give this workaround before fresh installations.

Could you in the meanwhile type over the exact error message you saw and is the failure immediately after you install drivers? Or while the drivers are getting installed?

Hi Ken,

Please upload your file using the steps below, then let us know the filename.

1. Connect to ftp.cisco.com via anonymous ftp.

2. Files must be uploaded into a folder called 'incoming', which is not visible to anonymous users
If you are using a text-based ftp client, type the command "cd incoming"
If you are using a GUI ftp client such as FileZilla, enter 'incoming' manually as the destination for the remote site

3. Upload the file as normal. You will not be able to see it on the server, as commands to list the files in that folder have been disabled. You may see error messages related to that.

NOTE: You cannot upload a file with the same name more than once as this creates the potential for other users to overwrite the files you have uploaded. If you need to re-upload the same file, either use a new filename or ask the Cisco employee you are working with to remove the file from the server.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for sending the snapshot over. My first impression is that the driver file could be wrong. Please grab the file under Drivers option in the following link;

http://developer.cisco.com/group/ucse/docs

Filename: MID 1477491 W2K8 R2 x64 Signed...

and while pointing to the driver , make sure that you point only to the folder and not to individual file within the folder. Try to resume installation after that and let me know if you see the same error as before.

I'd like to confirm your LSI firmware installation as well. Please follow the steps below and send over the data.

1. On the router type: ucse <slot> session bmc
2. When prompted enter user/password as admin/password
3. From BMC prompt type: scope chassis
4. And now type: show storageadapter detail

Hi Ken,

I tried to reproduce the issue locally but I do not see the same error
message. I want to make sure that the mapping is done correctly. The way I
do it is;

1. I copy the driver folder (downloaded from the beta website) into a
removable usb key.
2. I begin the windows installation, by mapping the windows iso image in the
vKVM.
3. At the point where installation asks for the driver, I plug in the
removable usb key into the local machine (that runs the GUI and vKVM) and
map this Removable Disk from inside the vKVM. I do this by tick marking the
mapped checkbox across "Removable Media" in the vKVM. See snapshot
from my vkvm.

4. After this step, I go back to the vkvm console, click browse and select
the driver ³folder². See snapshot

5. After clicking OK, the driver gets installed. See snapshot.

Let me know if it still does not work for you. We could do a quick webex to
troubleshoot this further.
