Introduction

VSE is a network integrated platform for hosting virtualized services. VSE provides the necessary framework and infrastructure to deliver the next generation of these services are agnostic of the form-factor and can move seamlessly between virtual and physical infrastructure. The service catalogue would consist of services coming from Cisco (internal) or from a pre-approved partner community through a VSE partner eco-system..

The service hosting model can be either loosely coupled (meaning no use of special hardware accelerators) or tightly coupled (making use of hardware accelerators like RegEx and crypto chips). VSE virtualization infrastructure would provide the appropriate API for the services to leverage the right hardware accelerator on the base platform.

The services that are targeted for hosting on VSE fall in the categories that are important from a Borderless or Data Center backbone network deployment. The categories include Security, ADC, Application Performance Management (APM) and NCCM.

Benefits

  • Deploy consistent network services architecture
  • Decouple network services software from the underlying hardware
  • Ability to orchestrate services across physical and virtual infrastructure
  • Enable 3rd party (non-Cisco) services hosting on a Cisco platform
