Overview

Brief Intro

TVDom and TVLib are the set of Cisco DOM objects (TVDom) and functions (TVLib) for allowing developers to access TV specific features of the set-top box environment.  These APIs, specific to the Cisco Vantage product, allow for standard Javascript access to common television user interface functions like retrieving guide data, retrieving program information, changing channel, managing DVR assets, etc...

Benefits

  • Vantage uses the latest World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards to enable a high degree of service provider and user customization
  • Vantage provides a set of advanced APIs (TVDom and TVLib), providing for standard Javascript access to common television user interface functions (e.g. Get Guide Data, Get Program Information, Change Channel, Manager DVR List, etc…)
  • Vantage allows developers to condense development and deployment timeframes for new services on cable set-top boxes by leveraging widely available web development expertise.
  • The Vantage application development environment allows for application developers to get creative with "over-the-top" application offerings (e.g. Weather app, Twitter app, etc…) or use the TVDom and TVLib functions to develop TV-centric applications and user interface themes using standard Javascript APIs and CSS.

Technology Details

Vantage is deployed at multiple North American Cable Service Providers, including Rogers Communications and SureWest Communications, among others, and the SDK (with TVDom and TVLib) allows developers to market advanced "over-the-top" and TV-centric applications to North American Cable Service Providers, bringing an IPTV-like user experience to traditional cable (QAM, tuner based) set-top boxes
