Technical Overview of Cisco XMLMI

XML Management Interface provides a XML programmatic interface through which a network device can be managed i.e. configuration and operational data can be retrieved, new configuration can be uploaded, faults are published and various troubleshooting and diagnostic operations can be performed. Network management applications predominantly use CLIs over telnet/ssh gateways with expect scripts for majority of the management tasks. XML Management Interface offers an alternative to the traditional approaches.
Currently the following two XML management interfaces are supported
- NETCONF (RFC 4741)
- WSMA (Web Services Management Agent) - IOS & IOS XE only
