Getting Started - Using WSMA SDK

Network Management application developers can choose to use the technology of their choice for writing management applications leveraging XML management interfaces. This section covers details on how to develop a Java application to communicate with WSMA using WSMA SDK. WSMA SDK is available for all Cisco customers and partners for free of charge.

Make sure to read WSMA SDK user guide from resources page before starting your application development.

Pre-requisites for creating and running your application using WSMA SDK:

  1. JDK 6 or above installed on the computer where you will develop the application
  2. Familiarity with Java programming and Java application development
  3. Access to an IOS router/switch with an image that supports WSMA
  4. WSMA configured with transport of choice (HTTP or HTTPS or SSHv2 or TLS)

Note: Recommended operating system for development is Windows. WSMA SDK may work fine on other operating systems.

Getting Started - Using Rule Editor

Rule Editor allows you to create rule files in a simple and intuitive way. The rule files should be downloaded in the router/switch to start to receive show command output in XML format.

Make sure to read Rule Editor user guide from resources page before you start using Rule Editor

Pre-requisites for creating rules files using Rule Editor:

  1. JRE 6 or above installed on the computer where you will develop rule files

Note: Recommended operating system for running Rule Editor is Windows. Rule Editor may work fine on other operating systems.

Download odmtool.jar from resources page to access the Rule Editor GUI tool. Double clicking on the odmtool.jar file will start the Rule Editor application

WSMA SDK and Rule Editor are provided to Cisco customers and partners to jump start their network management application development utilizing WSMA XML Management interface.
