iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It supports tuning of various parameters related to timing, buffers and protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6). For each test it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters.

TRex addresses the problems associated with commercial traffic generators, through an innovative and extendable software implementation, and by leveraging standard and open software and x86 based hardware. Catalyst 9000 series switches supports TRex Stateless mode. TRex Stateless support enables basic L2/L3 testing, relevant mostly for a switch.

perfSONAR is a network measurement toolkit designed to provide federated coverage of paths, and help to establish end-to-end usage expectations. perfSONAR provides a uniform interface that allows for the scheduling of measurements, storage of data in uniform formats, and scalable methods to retrieve data and generate visualizations.

ISC DHCP offers a complete open source solution for implementing DHCP servers, relay agents, and clients. ISC DHCP supports both IPv4 and IPv6, and is suitable for use in high-volume and high-reliability applications.

BIND 9 has evolved to be a very flexible, full-featured DNS system. BIND 9 is a single system that performs both authoritative and recursive DNS functions.

Nagios monitors the network for problems caused by overloaded data links or network connections, as well as monitoring routers, switches and more. Easily able to monitor availability, uptime and response time of every node on the network, Nagios can deliver the results in a variety of visual representations and reports.

TShark is a network protocol analyzer. It lets you capture packet data from a live network, or read packets from a previously saved capture file, either printing a decoded form of those packets to the standard output or writing the packets to a file. TShark's native capture file format is pcapng format, which is also the format used by wireshark and various other tools.
