Intent APIs

Intent APIs provide a consistent way to access Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly known as Cisco DNA Center) Automation and Assurance workflows.

Intent APIs simplify the process of creating workflows that consolidate multiple network actions. Thus, intent APIs create a shift from doing repetitive tasks to creating value-added solutions.

Imagine configuring a SSID on a wireless network; in a traditional networking world, a network admin would have to perform operations such as creating wireless interface, WLAN settings, security settings etc., which may take a significant amount of time. With the intent-based approach, you can offload all this processing to the SSID provisioning API, which can process the operations at much greater efficiency; thus, reducing the overall time.

Other examples of key workflows are configuring QoS policies, updating the software images running on the network devices, monitoring application health etc.

With this rich and comprehensive set of APIs, application developers can now build apps that can interact with the network via a single integration layer. Intent APIs also expose standard network-based resource operations such as create/update/delete on objects, that provides flexibility to tailor application experience.

These RESTful APIs simple, extensible, and secure. They support the standard HTTP verbs GET, POST, PUT and DELETE. A REST endpoint accepts and returns HTTPS messages that contain JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) documents. You can use any programming language to generate the messages and the JSON documents that contain the API methods. These APIs are governed by Cisco Catalyst Center Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) rules and they require the user to authenticate successfully prior to using the API.
