Factory Reset a Cisco IR800 router

If necessary, use the following instructions to factory reset a gateway. This will erase the gateway's configuration and remove the password.

Caution: Push the reset button lightly. Pushing the button too hard can break it.

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Simultaneously press the reset button while you apply power to the device.
  3. Hold the reset button for about 30 seconds until the Protocol over Ethernet (PoE) light comes on and then release the button.

To verify that the reset button was successfully pressed, a message similar to the following should appear:

Reset Button pressed. Changed to 9600 baud

The configuration reset button has been pressed.

Alternative method: Factory Reset a Cisco IR800 router

If the above steps do not work, use the following alternative method.

Caution: Push the reset button lightly. Pushing the button too hard can break it.

  1. Power off the router.
  2. While holding the Reset button, power up the router.
  3. Connect a console cable from your computer to the gateway console port.
  4. Hold it until you see "The configuration reset button has been pressed" on the router console output.
  5. Quickly press Ctrl+C.
  6. The router will enter rommon-1>
  7. Enter the command cfgreg 0x2142, which allows the router to ignore the startup-config.
  8. Enter the command reboot.
  9. The router will reboot into initial configuration mode.
  10. Configure the console username, password and enable password.
  11. In config mode, enter the command config-register 0x2102.
  12. Save the configuration and reload the router.
