Add a 3rd party sensor

Note: This feature is available to select EFT customers by request. Please contact your Cisco support representative for assistance.

Important: Add and onboard a network device before onboarding a sensor.

Note:

  1. When you order sensors, they will automatically be added to the inventory.
  2. Adding a sensor manually using UI is available to select EFT customers by request. Please contact your Cisco support representative for assistance.
  3. Managing a sensor (view, edit and delete) is available to all customers.

Add a single 3rd party sensor

  1. From the left pane click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. From the right pane, click Actions > Add 3rd Party Sensor.
  3. Click Manual Add.
  4. Choose a profile from the Choose Sensor Profile drop-down list.
  5. Complete the fields Region, DevUI and Application Key from the above table and click Add.

Add multiple 3rd party sensors

Use a CSV file to add a large number of 3rd party sensors.

  1. From the left pane click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. From the right pane, click Actions > Add 3rd Party Sensor.
  3. Click Bulk Add.
  4. In the Upload CSV file section, choose a file or drag and drop to upload a CSV file. If you don't have a file, click Download Sample CSV to download the sample template that contains the required column fields. Then, fill the template with appropriate data and upload it.

    Note: The column headers are Manufacturer Name, Manufacturer Model, DevEUI, LoRaWAN Region and Application Key.

  5. Click Add.

Select the History tab to view all the uploaded CSV files. You can also download them by clicking Download in the Status Report column.

Notes:

  1. You can't upload an empty CSV file.
  2. The CSV file should contain the above mentioned column headers for each field for which the data is to be set.
  3. The CSV file size should not exceed 5 MB.
  4. The CSV file name should not exceed 256 characters.

Manage Sensors

View a Sensor

  1. From the left pane click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. From the right pane, select a Sensor to view its status and details.

Refer to View Sensor Details and Troubleshoot for more details.

Edit a Sensor

  1. From the left pane click Inventory > Sensors > select a sensor to edit.
  2. In the Sensor Summary page, click Edit Sensor to modify the required fields and click Update.

Delete a Sensor

  1. From the left pane click Inventory > Sensors > select a sensor to delete.
  2. Click Delete and then click Yes when prompted.

Add a 3rd party sensor profile

  1. From the left pane, click Configuration > Sensor Catalog.
    This page shows 2 tabs:
    1. Cisco Sensors
    2. 3rd Party Sensors.
  2. Click 3rd Part Sensors and then click Add Sensor Profile.
  3. Complete the following fields and click Add.
Field Description
Choose Manufacturer Name Select a manufacturer from the drop-down list.
If you want to add a new manufacturer, click Add Manufacturer and enter the name of the manufacturer in the Enter Manufacturer Name field.
Note: You cannot enter duplicate manufacturer names (the manufacturer names that already exist in the drop-down list).
Model Enter the manufacturer model name or number.
Note: You cannot enter duplicate model names or numbers for the same manufacturer.
LoRaWAN MAC Version Select an option from the drop-down list.
LoRaWAN Regional Parameters Version The options in this drop-down list are shown based on the selected LoRaWAN MAC Version. Select an option.
Upload Sensor Thumbnail Click Choose File to Upload and select the relevant image for the sensor. The image size should not exceed 5MB.
After uploading the image, click Choose New Image to replace the current image and click Delete to delete the image.

If the 3rd party sensor profile is successfully added, it is shown in the 3rd Party Sensors tab.

  • On the left side of this page, the list of the 3rd Party Sensor manufacturer names is shown.
    • Hover over Ellipsis and then click Edit to edit the manufacturer name.
    • Hover over Ellipsis then click Delete and then click Yes when prompted to delete the manufacturer. You can delete a manufacturer only if it is not associated with a sensor.

      Note: You can edit and delete the manufacturer only if you have the Sensor Catalog Read Write permission.

  • Click on a manufacturer name to see its profiles on the right pane.
  • Click on a profile to see its details. In the details screen,
    • Hover over Edit to modify the profile details. Change the required fields and click Update.
    • Hover over Delete to delete the profile. You can delete a profile only if it is not associated with a sensor. You can edit and delete the sensor profile only if you have the Sensor Catalog Read Write permission.
  • You can also search for a particular profile using the Search bar on top right of the 3rd Party Sensors page.

Deactivating a 3rd party sensor

Deactivating a 3rd party sensor moves it to the unused state.

  1. From the left pane, click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. Select the 3rd party sensor that you want to deactivate.
  3. In the Sensor Details page, click Deactivate and then click Yes when prompted.

Note: You can deactivate only one 3rd party sensor at a time.

Add Decoder

The sensor sends data to various FPORTs. Each FPORT has different data, which the decoder sorts according to the FPORTs. Obtain the decoder from the sensor vendor's repository.

  1. From the left pane, click Configuration > Sensor Catalog.
  2. Click 3rd Party Sensors.
  3. Select Sensor profile.
  4. Click Edit.
    Edit Sensor Profile page appears.
  5. Go to Payload Decoder and add Decoder.
  6. Click Update.

To view the newly added decoder information:

  1. From the left pane, click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. Select the updated 3rd Party Sensor to view its new decoder details.
  3. In the Summary page, only 3 attributes will be available.
  4. To see all the attributes:
    1. Click Telemetry page.
    2. Go to Telemetry Data field and select the date range as required.
    3. Click Download CSV.
  5. To see the raw payload:
    1. Go to Message Inspector > Application Data.
    2. Select date range in Application Data field.
      Changes made to parameters are also visible in the Message Inspector upon receiving new uplinks.

Reset the Decoder

To reset the decoder to its default value, follow these steps:

  1. From the left pane, click Configuration > Sensor Catalog.
  2. Click 3rd Party Sensors.
  3. Select 3rd Party Sensor profile.
  4. Click Edit.
    Edit Sensor Profile page appears.
  5. Click Reset to default decoder.
  6. A warning message will pop-up.
    Select Yes to proceed.
  7. Click Update.
  8. Go to the updated 3rd Party Sensor profile and check the information in the Payload decoder field. It will display Default.

Decoder Error

  1. From the left pane, click Inventory > Sensors.
  2. Select the required 3rd Party Sensor from the table.
    If the decoder has an error, a message will appear on the sensor's page.
  3. Click Message Inspector from error message.
    It directs you to the Message Inspector page, where a Type filter is applied to the table.
  4. Click on the drop-down arrow to view the type of error.

To correct Decoder error:

  1. From the left pane, click Configuration > Sensor Catalog.
  2. Click 3rd Party Sensors.
  3. Select 3rd Party Sensor profile.
  4. Click Edit.
    Edit Sensor Profile page appears.
  5. Go to Payload Decoder.
  6. Correct error and click Update.
    After the user resolves the decoder issue, the Message Inspector page will start receiving the uplink without errors. For the next hour, the system will keep showing an error message on the sensor's page as it continues to monitor the messages.
