Resolved Caveats on IoT OD

CDETs Device Affected Description Symptoms Workaround
CSCwh25866 All IRs When firmware update is scheduled for multiple devices in varying states (up/down/configuring, etc), and if the devices experience unstable network connectivity issues, there is a potential for the firmware update to fail with exceptions.
Once the devices are up and running, reattempting the firmware update should succeed.
The firmware update job might fail with the following error messages in Software > Submitted Job > Device-level error messages:
"Operation was canceled due to System Error in the JobEngine", and/or
"Error processing element [IRxxx]: org.hibernate.exception.GenericJDBCException: could not execute statement".
This hotfix reduces the frequency of the occurrence of the issue.
For the existing jobs that already have an error, attempting the firmware update job again will help rectify the issue.
There is still one scenario where the firmware update might fail (<6% odds); in the event we hit it, the user needs to reattempt the firmware update submission for those devices.

The secondary SIM will not unlock, even when using the correct SIM PIN given by the carrier. 1. Login to the router CLI.
2. Activate the second SIM in the desired (cellular x/x/x lte sim activate slot <0-1>).
3. Unlock using the proper PIN for the SIM (cellular x/x/x lte sim unlock xxxx).
4. If desired, switch the active SIM card back to the first SIM using the same command as in Step 2, but specify the opposite slot for the SIM card.

Resolved Caveats on IoT OD

CDETs Device Affected Description
CSCwe95571 All IRs * After the config push, the device is missing keyring configuration for management tunnel. Because of this, the tunnel1 never comes up after config push and the user has to console into the device to perform the PNP reset to recover it. This issue occurs for some devices but not all because of the version of the bootstrap config template on which each device is onboarded.
* Configs that have iotod-dh-groups crypto proposal and policy will not be affected. Those that don't, currently have the issue.
CSCwa54792 IR1101 and IR1800 * Device reloads under specific circumstances (for example, enabling Umbrella and conflicts with the IP SLA. Our fix secures the config push process, and in certain cases, limits reloading the devices.
* Firmware version 17.10.1a provides a solution.

Resolved Caveats on Iot-OD

CDETs Device Effected Description Info Workaround
CSCwc18289 All IR platforms Device up/down flapping event seen in Event logs. Tunnel connectivity: reachability from IoT-OD to device is not impacted. When you refresh metrics from IoT-OD, device comes up.

Root cause: Last heard metric was not updating since IoT-OD missed some SNMP traps sent by the device. So, markdown timer (which relies on last heard) sets device to DOWN state at its configured interval. When periodic interval timer arrives, device comes back UP. This caused flapping.
Set Config Group > Properties > set "Markdown timer interval" to be less than the "Periodic interval."

Open Caveats in IoT-OD

Defect Device effected Description Information Symptom Condition Workaround
CSCwb90951 IR On occasion, configuration push jobs do not expire automatically even when no devices are attached to group. This scenario can occur if there is an AP registration that continuously fails and devices are deleted. Subsequently, addition of the same devices to the same configuration group fails but is circumventable by using another configuration group. An active configuration job for registration cannot be cancelled once all attached devices to a group are deleted. Job did not expire or timeout itself against normal behavior. Also, we can not add any device to the affected group at this stage. Customer onboarded three devices using a particular group, AP bootstrapping was continuously failing and the configuration push was active. The customer successfully deleted all 3 devices. Use a different configuration group for registration.
CSCwb45934 IR While adding an IR800 or IR1100 device to an eCVD template group, in the User Management section, for 'Privilege Level' dropdown, along with the correct Privilege level values ('User', "Admin'), there is an additional 'Privilege Level' label displayed. The 'Privilege Level' label that is displayed cannot be selected and does not affect the actual 'Privilege level' value selection functionality The 'Privilege Level' label is shown as one of the selection choices in the drop-down along with actual 'Privilege level' values. The 'Privilege Level' label appears in the drop-down list only when the user tries to add more than one user in the user management section. Select the Privilege level ('User' or 'Admin') and click Save. The 'Privilege Level' label that is displayed in the dropdown cannot be selected.
CSCwb91680 All GET /devices with pagination is returning duplicates and missing records When there are more than 200 devices in the organization, paginating with a page greater than 1 and sorting based on non-unique fields like status and firmware version will return incorrect results. Sorting with pagination based on non-unique columns for /devices API can return duplicate records on subsequent pages When a sort is performed on a non-unique column Sort devices based on unique column such as name and eid.

CDETs Device Effected Description Information Workaround
CSCwb35413 IG Status sets to null in Connected Clients workflow. In the rare case that a Connected Client provides 0.0.0.0 as its IP address, SEA to Client will still work. Client can still be accessed from Connected Clients and SEA. However, from Operations Dashboard maps view, the Clients will not show up. For SEA to these clients, from SEA everything works. Only from Dashboard maps, in the event any client hits this rare bug, you cannot view.
CSCwb11699 IR Unable to recover the device from Config Failure when Cellular 2 is selected as the WAN uplink. eCVD WAN today provides a Cellular 2 interface. It is only for data traffic, not for onboarding via Cellular2 or failover to/from other interfaces. Dual-LTE or interface failover support from IoT-OD is planned for upcoming releases. Assign Cellular 1 to WAN Uplink option, not Cellular 2.
The next registration cycle will push the updated configuration.
It will be successful.
CSCwa49091 IG, IR Tenant name with backslash: Operations Dashboard stats won't work. Do not use backslash character when creating a new organization. You cannot edit an organization name; create a new one.
CSCwb37468 IR8x9 Location history not working in eCVD Basic IR8x9 template. Only the following 2 templates are available:

CSCwb26271 IG Deleting PAT rules at device level is not deleting on the device. If you delete PAT rules and click "Save and Push" Config button, the PAT rules are not deleted on the device. 1. Delete PAT rules.
2. Click Save.
3. Click Push Config.
CSCwb52468 IR1101 For the IR1101 device using eCVD2.0 and eCVD2.01 Advanced template, for WAN > Cellular 1 and Cellular 2 selection, use the dropdown to select Cellular 1 or Cellular 2, NOT the default Cellular 1 or Cellular 2. Application: you want to add APN name to Cellular 1 or Cellular 2 in the WAN interface in the Config group. 1. Click Configuration > pick the device > Edit Group > Configurations tab > WAN interface > WAN Uplink2 Enabled > select "Cellular 1" or "Cellular 2" dropdown > from dropdown select Cellular 1 or Cellular 2.
2. Difference: select value from dropdown instead of default.
3. Add cellular APN.
4. Save.
Consequences: Using default Cellular 1 or Cellular 2 option may wipe out initial APN. The updates won't get pushed to the device.
Fix will be updated in upcoming release cycle.

To set device-level config, each parameter at the group level needs to be set to "per device." If not set, and if user tries to modify at device level, it will not take effect.
Some section-level parameters such as NTP, NAT, or toggling VPN enable/disable or WiFi enable/disable may appear to not take effect.
Currently no error is thrown that group-level setting is taking precedence.

Supported firmware

Edge Device Minimal Firmware Version (IOS Version) Recommended Firmware Version (IOS Version)
IR807, IR809, and IR829 Single LTE 15.8(3)M2a 15.9(3)M2a
IR829 AP 15.3.3JI1 15.3(3)JK5
IR829 Dual LTE 15.9(3)M2a 15.9(3)M3
IR1101 17.01.01 17.06.01

Note: Factory resetting an network device restores the network device to it's original firmware version. See Updating firmware to upgrade the network device to the latest version.

Important: If using eCVD template 1.7 or 1.8 for IR829 AP, update the following parameters in Configuration Group > Edit Config > AP Configuration:

             wgbSsid to wgbSSID

             wgbPsk to wgbPSK

Impact: If we register devices with wgbSsid/wgbPsk as the parameters in the AP configuration, instead of the revised wgbSSID/wgbPSK, AP may encounter registration failure during initial onboarding as it is currently case sensitive.

For an already onboarded device, there is no functional impact. Modifying the configuration will have no impact on existing device functionality.

Application Management release information

Known Limitations/Issues

  • An application can be installed on IR1101 device only it has a network interface defined in the package configuration (package.yaml).
  • Sorting of some fields in App Management device/instance tables does not work (CSCvy98685).
  • On IR829 Releases, IOx may at times fail bring-up due to one of the device IOx components (Secure storage) in IR829. One timing related scenario CSCvw60852 fixed in 159-3.M4. Pending scenario CSCvz30108. Is a known limitation on the device end, not on the IoT-Operations Dashboard.
    • Symptoms: Application Management may state — Application management services are not running/found. SEA Application may be offline. This especially happens if IOx configurations are pushed to device after device bring-up. If application fails to come up , please share following with IoT-OD team for investigation:
    • Downloaded tech support logs with IoT-OD team for investigation.
    • Troubleshooting > show commands:
      • show platform hypervisor
      • show version
      • show platform guest-os
      • show iox host list detail
    • Workaround: Router reload (with IOx configs present)

Resolved Limitations/Issues

  • More than 10 applications can now be uploaded per tenant.

Application Manager release information

Supported hardware devices

  • IR1101
  • IR829
  • IR809

Supported firmware

Devices Version
IR1101 17.04 or later
IR809 15.8(3)M2a or later
IR829 15.8(3)M2a or later

Known Limitations

  1. Only 10 applications can be uploaded per tenant at a given time (each of these 10 apps can have multiple versions). Remove the unwanted/unused apps to make space for new apps. This limit will be enhanced in a future release.
  2. An application can be installed on IR1101 device only it has a network interface defined in the package configuration (package.yaml).

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. In the application details view many details will be marked as “Unavailable” if the application developer has not provided that information, or if the app was installed using a different system such as Cisco GMM.
  2. If a device that was successfully onboarded to EDM is still not shown as "Discovered" in the installation workflow, check the following:
    • The group to which the device is assigned should use the right configuration templates which enables IOx and setup the necessary networking.
    • The device should be up and running and the event log for the device in EDM should indicate that IOx module is added to the device during bootstrapping.
    • IOx should be up and running on the device (Use appropriate device specific IOS commands to check this. E.g.: "show iox host list detail" for IR8x9 devices).
    • Try the "Device Refresh" action from the installation workflow and check the results after few seconds.
  3. If application installation fails, check the error message in the instance page. If the reason for failure is a configuration or resource availability issue, try the following:
    • Install the application again using the correct configuration values for the application.
    • Uninstall the application, then reinstall it using the correct configuration values.
