Overview

Cisco Systems IP Phone Services bring the power of the World Wide Web to Cisco IP Phones. An integral part of a Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) solution, IP Phone Services provide access to intelligent network applications and dynamic and interactive communication tools.

Many attempts at personalizing traditional private branch exchange (PBX) solutions are available today. Technology Details

Cisco IP Phone Services provides a simple, standard, and structured way to organize data. XML can be used to describe the format of a document with what is known as an XML Schema. An XML document containing data in a format compatible with a defined schema is commonly referred to as an instance document.

The Cisco IP Phones 7940 and 7960 can be configured to display menus, text, and graphics that the phone can obtain from normal web servers. The different types of data are displayed using pre-defined XML Schemas. These primitive XML schema types can be used to create Cisco IP Phone Services as well as creating customized directories using a subset of the schemas.
