Solution Details and Delivery

The Series Embedded Services Routers (ESRs) are optimized for mobile and embedded networks that require IP routing and services. The Embedded Service Switch (ESS) extends switching capabilities to mobile and embedded networks that operate in extreme environments.
Defense and aerospace The devices are being used to build advanced tactical networks that provide highly secure, reliable, high-speed connectivity. The switches are ruggedized to meet the needs of forward-deployed communication for on-the-move networks in remote areas. They deliver highly secure broadband for voice, video, and data communication.
Oil and Gas Monitor and analyze data from some of the most remote, harshest environments in the world. The devices provide reliable networks that can monitor high-value assets and collect data from remote oil rigs for real-time data analysis.
Transportation The devices are installed in trains, commercial airplanes, automobiles, trucks, and first-responder and emergency vehicles. Integrators can build switches with custom interfaces and the right level of mechanical ruggedization--ingress protection, temperature, shock vibration--based on application needs.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME)

For this particular Design Pattern, the ESR6300 is the Cisco Unified CME router.
The switch can be the internal LAN switch of the ESR6300 for up to 4 ports.
If more ports are needed, consider adding an ESS3300 embedded LAN switch.
Connection to the PSTN would be via SIP Trunk services connected to one of the WAN ports.
The gatekeeper function is another router in the collaboration hierarchy.
IPsec VPN Encryption/Decryption Process

The Inside Interface for the ESR6300 will generally be a VLAN tied to the LAN ports.

The Layer 3 WAN Port of the ESR6300 will generally be the Outside Interface.
WAN Optimization using SD-WAN

SD-WAN sites (yellow path) can take advantage of policy settings to make the best choice of network cloud for performance and security based on the network application and other criteria. Whereas, the legacy traffic (blue path) has only one path and no redundancy.
This feature will be available for the ESR6300 in calendar year 2020.
Radio Aware Routing (RAR) using DLEP

- Networking-on-the-move for tactical vehicles
- Ad hoc connections established without manual intervention
- Autonomous operation without reach-back connectivity
- Leverage peers for alternate paths, satellite access
- DLEP enabled radios tell DLEP enabled router what the best radio path is
