SNMP Getting Started

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) services are included in the installation of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM). The minimum requirements for using and testing SNMP service are:

  • A Cisco Unified CM infrastructure or the Dedicated Lab in the Cisco Sandbox
  • A registered phone (optional)

SNMP Service Activation

SNMP activation is handled in Cisco Unified Serviceability.

Before making a SNMP request, ensure the Cisco CallManager SNMP service is activated.

Follow these steps to verify the service is activated:

  1. From the Cisco Unified CM Administration window, select Cisco Unified Serviceability. Then click Go.
  2. Select Tools > Control Center - Feature Services
  3. Scroll down to the Performance and Monitoring Services section to verify Cisco CallManager SNMP Service is activated.

If needed, other services can be activated or deactivated.

To activate and configure the Cisco CallManager SNMP Service on all the nodes in an environment with a cluster of nodes, review Cluster service activation recommendations.

SNMP MIBs

Developers use the MIB Navigator to download the latest MIBs for SNMP functionality. See Use the MIB Navigator.

To learn more about configuring SNMP-associated settings, such as community strings, users, and notification destinations for V1, V2c, and V3, see Simple Network Management Protocol in the Cisco Unified Serviceability Administration Guide.

If your configuration supports clusters (Cisco Unified Communications Manager only), activate this service on all servers in the cluster.
