Using the Calendar to Track Events
About Using the Calendar to Track Events
The Calendar provides an at-a-glance graphical timeline to track all pending and previously configured/booked Reservations and scheduled Job Runs on a monthly basis; events are color-coded to help you distinguish between event types.
You can also perform ongoing CRUD operations/functions on calendar events to fine-tune and manage your testing requirements/operations.
NOTE:
The Calendar shows events that are relevant to your present Group; to look at events for another Group, you must first switch to another Group before viewing the calendar details.
You can also perform the following operations on the Calendar page (see the "Performing Operations on Reservations/Job Runs via the Calendar" sub-topic below for details):
- Reservations (Overview | Release)
- Scheduled Job Runs (Overview | Edit | Clone | Delete). See below for details.
Why the Calendar Matters?
The Calendar shows a pictorial view of scheduled Reservations and Job Runs on a daily basis in order to track ongoing events. You can also use the Calendar as a means to visually:
Determine time-slots availability when choosing Pick My Time Reservations.
Determine the overall utilization of lab resources as events become populated over time.
Determine/confirm that important Job runs are scheduled at the appropriate time-slots over lower priority Job Runs.
Determine the effect/impact of/on a CMW (Common Maintenance Window) on a given day for scheduled Job Runs.
Defining Color Usage on the Calendar
Reservations and Job Runs are associated with a color scheme to help you identify them:
- Reservations are shown in green (for both Static testbeds and LaaS testbeds/topologies)
- Scheduled Job Runs are shown in blue.
Accessing the Calendar
You can access the Calendar from the Main Navigation menu bar→Main Menu→EVENTS→Calendar; the Job and Reservation Event Schedules page launches.
You can filter event details to show only the Reservations or scheduled Job Runs that were created by you, or show all events created by other Group members. To see events for another Group you have membership in, switch to that Group first.
NOTE:
Events shown on the Calendar are Group specific and only show the active Group event schedule.
Click on an event to display additional event details (date and time) and to reveal which operations that can be performed on the event.
You can perform the following operations on the Calendar for Reservations and scheduled Job Runs:
From the Main Navigation Bar, choose Main Menu→EVENTS→Calendar to open the Job and Reservation Event Schedules page.
Click on an event to display additional event details (date and time) and to reveal the post-registrations operations that can be performed.
Click the appropriate floating action button located below the event details.
- For Reservation:
- Overview: Provides a quick link to the Reservation details page.
- Release: Allows you to release (delete) a reservation in the event it is no longer required.
NOTE:
You can Release a reservation under these conditions: (1) You created the reservation; all other reservations created by other users are blocked. (2) The reservation is not in the following operational state: Expired, Errored, Released, or Revoked.
- For scheduled Job Runs:
- Overview: Provides a quick link to the Job Schedule details page.
- Edit: Allows you to edit the following Job Schedule details: Title | Start-date | Type of Recurrence. For any other changes you want to make, you must delete the Job schedule and recreate it.
- Clone: Allows you to make a duplicate of an existing Job Schedule; change the title of new Job schedule to provide a unique identifier and if necessary, tweak any parameter details for the new application. If the duplicate schedule does not meet your new requirement (since limited parameter fields can be modified), you need to create a new Job Schedule.
- Delete: Allows you to delete a pending Job schedule as your Job run requirements change.
