Electrical Constraints
- Only the SGMII interface and 12VDC power are available for module usage. Other interfaces such as UART, MDC/MDIO are reserved for Cisco internal use only.
- The module must bridge the Host AP's SGMII to native buses as required.
- Hot swap is not supported. However, the Host AP will force a hard reboot if EM hot-insertion or removal is detected.
Power Constraints
Module power is limited to the power available to the host AP minus AP power draw. Power dissipation must be considered so the module does not cause 'excessive heating' of the AP due to conduction or radiation.
AP powered by PoE+ (802.3at, 30W) switch
- Expansion modules should consume no more than 2.7W.
AP powered by uPoE (802.3bt, 60W) switch
- Expansion modules should consume no more than 9W.
Thermal Constraints
Modules shall rely on passive cooling methods and shall not utilize fans or blowers for forced air cooling as device reliability and noise are primary concerns.
- The final solution is invariably driven by end-customer ingress protection and operating environment requirements.
