Diagnostic operations
Admin users can perform the following diagnostic operations on their organization's claimed gateways.
- Select Gateway > Gateways.
- Click the Monitor tab.
- Select a gateway.
- Click Diagnostics.
- Click a button to run the predefined diagnostics:
- Connectivity with Kinetic—Click Gateway or App Infra to verify that the gateway and apps can communicate with Cisco Kinetic.
- Test network—
- Click Ping or Trace Route to verify connectivity from the gateway to a different IP address. See below for more information.
- Click Test Throughput and enter an iPerf Server address to retrieve cellular throughput information. Use this to find out where the connectivity is bad, such as signal strength or uplink bandwidth issues. You can host your own iPerf server (recommended) or use a public iPerf server.
- Show Commands—In the Show Commands field, enter the show commands or select a command from the available history below. Then, click Run to display information about the gateway.
- Note:
- Supported commands include:
- "show" or "sh" or "sho"
- The more command used to view the content of files on the flash.
- The service-module wlan-ap 0 status command used to check the AP (access point) status on an IR829 gateway.
- A history of the last 10 show commands used in the organization are available.
- More than one show command can be entered at a time in the Show Commands field.

The results from the show command execution are shownin the Command Output console.
- Debug Commands—Retrieve the syslogs, clear the syslogs, enable/disable additional debugging on the gateways.
- Refresh—Click one of the following options:
- Reboot gateway—Performs a soft reset of the gateway, similar to a power cycle. The gateway configuration is not affected.
- Reboot AP—Performs a soft reset of the access point on an IR829 gateway, similar to a power cycle. The gateway configuration is not affected.
- Refresh App Management—Refreshes the app management state, which causes Cisco Kinetic to resync with the IOx apps running on the gateway.
- __Reset Config __—Reboot the gateway, erase the current network configuration, and reconfigure the gateway based on the currently assigned template.
Tip: Click Export to download a text file with the diagnostic results.
Test the network connection
Admin users can use the ping and trace route commands to verify connectivity from the gateway to a different IP address.
- Select Gateway > Gateways.
- Select a gateway.
- Click Diagnostics.
- Click Ping, enter the following parameters, and click Run.
- IP/Host Name—Address of a location where the ping packet will be sent.
- Datagram Size—Size of the ping packet, including IP Header.
- Source—When selected, uses the IP address of the interface of the corresponding network as the source IP.
- Set BF Bit—Sets the Don’t Fragment option when sending a ping.
- Click Trace Route, enter the following parameters, and click Run.
- IP/Host Name—Address of a location where the ping packet will be sent.
- TTL—The range of routing hubs when performing Traceroute.
