Alert: Cisco has made the end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Cisco Industrial Asset Vision (IAV).

Templates are used to apply alerts to an individual or a group of sensors of a given sensor type and bridges.

A default template is created for each sensor type and the bridge. The default template name format for the Cisco sensors is SensorModel_Default. For example, AV200_Default. The default template name format for the 3rd party LoRaWAN sensors is TPSENSOR_Default and for Analog/Digital sensors is ANALOG_DIGITAL_Default. In the default template, you can update the missed uplink interval for generating Sensor unreachable and Bridge unreachable alerts and can also update the recipients who need to be notified when this alert is raised. Sensor unreachable and Bridge unreachable alerts are raised by the system is they miss an uplink/downlink. Default templates cannot be deleted.

IXMUnreachable is the default template that is created for Network Devices and is globally provisioned to all the gateways. It cannot be deleted. Only the Alert Timeout, recipients, and AdHoc notifications can be updated to the default template.

Alerts defined prior to this release are migrated to the template-based approach. To accommodate this, additional templates are created for the particular sensor type with the naming convention — SensorModel_MigratedAlerts and all the alerts applicable to that sensor type are automatically added to the template as part of the migration. See below for more details.

Add a template

  1. From the left menu, click Configuration > Templates.

  2. In the right pane, click Add Template.

  3. In the Setup screen, enter a name for the template and an optional description in the Name and Description fields respectively.

  4. In the Device Type field, select Bridge to create a template for a bridge or select Cisco Sensor to create a template for a Cisco sensor, or select Analog/Digital Sensor to create a template for a Analog/Digital sensor. The options in the Choose Model field below are displayed based on this selection.

    1. If you selected Bridge or Cisco Sensor, select a bridge model or a sensor from the drop-down list in the Choose Model field.
    2. If you selected Analog/Digital Sensor, in the Choose Input Type field, select Analog Input or Digital Input. Then, from the Choose Sensor/Alias Type drop-down list, select an option for the Sensor/Alias type. Click Next.
  5. In the Configurations screen, in the Alert Rule Settings tab, add one or more Alert Rules. Only the alert rules that apply to the sensor or bridge model are displayed to the user.

Note: Sensor unreachable and Bridge unreachable are the default preconfigured alert rules for all the sensor and bridge templates respectively.

In the Add Alert Rules section, configure the missed uplinks by selecting an option from the Select Missed Uplinks drop-down list.

Note: The time estimation depends on the default reporting interval of the selected sensor or bridge model. For example, if the default reporting interval of a sensor is 1 hour and “2 times” is selected as the number of missed uplinks, the time estimation will be listed as 2 hours. This indicates that this sensor will be marked as unreachable after not hearing from it for 2 hours.

  6. Select one or more recipients from the Select Recipients drop-down list. This is an optional input field that shows the email IDs of the users with the Tenant Admin role.

  7. The users have the option to receive notifications for the alerts.

    1. To receive notifications via email, select Email Notification and enter a valid email ID and hit the spacebar.
    2. To receive notifications via text message, select SMS Notification and enter a valid phone number and hit the spacebar.
  8. To add another Alert Rule, click Add Asset and complete the required fields. Click Add Asset to delete the Alert Rule.

Note: This does not apply to the Bridge. You can also select more alert rules of the same Sensor Type or Alias Type, and Unit that is selected in the first alert rule.

  9. You can also configure the uplink interval.

Note: This option is available only to the Cisco sensors (except for the vibration sensor—AV251) Click the Configuration tab below the Alert Rule Settings tab.

    1. For all the Cisco sensors (except the vibration sensor—AV251 and the GPS sensor—AV300): In the Uplink Interval (in minute(s)) field, enter the interval time from 1 to 120 minutes.
    2. For the GPS sensor—AV300: In the Heartbeat/Out of Trip Reporting Interval (in hour(s)) field, enter the interval time from 1 to 127 hours, and in the In Trip Reporting Interval (in minute(s)) field, enter the interval time from 1 to 127 minutes.
  10. After adding the Alert Rules, click Next.

  11. In the Discover Devices screen, the list of onboarded devices for the sensor or bridge model selected in the Setup screen is displayed. You can optionally apply the template to the device(s) here. To apply the template, select the required devices. To remove the applied template, deselect the devices. The templates that are applied to the devices by default cannot be removed.

    • To apply the template to multiple devices, select the required devices and click Apply Template. To remove the applied template, select the required devices and click Remove.

Note: Pulse Counter sensors are not displayed in the list since templates can't be applied to them.

  12. After applying the template, click Next.

  13. Review the changes and click Add to add a new template to the system. >Note: All associated alerts configured in the template are applied to the devices that are part of the template.

Manage a Template

View a Template

  1. From the left menu, click Configuration > Templates.
  2. In the right pane, in the Templates screen, select a template to view its details. In the Summary tab, under the Summary section, the details of the template are displayed. In the Alert Rule Settings section, the alert rules specific data is displayed.
  3. In the Devices tab, the devices (onboarded) associated with this template are listed.

Note: In the list of templates, only the devices that you have access to are shown.

Edit a Template

  1. From the left menu, click Configuration > Templates.
  2. In the right pane, in the Templates screen, select a template to edit.
  3. In the Summary tab, click Edit.
  4. Make the required changes and click Update.

Note: The template Name, Device Type, and Sensor Model fields cannot be edited.

  5. To modify the associated devices, in the template details page, click on the Devices tab.
  6. Click Manage Devices and select or deselect the required devices and click Save.
