DNS/NTP
Alert: Cisco has made the end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Cisco Edge Device Manager (EDM).
Note: Both IR1101 and IR1800 series devices provide the same Domain Name System (DNS) and Network Transport Protocol (NTP) functionality. DNS/NTP functionality is unavailable in IR800 devices. DNS enables a Domain Name Server to translate domain names into IP addresses.
NTP is a networking protocol used for clock synchronization between computer systems (laptops, servers, or routers).
DNS Settings
- Primary LAN DNS IP Address: A required field that provides the primary DNS IP address. The default primary IP Address is: 208.67.222.222.
- Secondary LAN DNS IP Address: A required field that provides secondary DNS IP address for the backup server. The default secondary IP Address is: 208.67.222.220.
NTP Settings
- Set time via NTP or manually set time by selecting the time zone: A required field that provides the actual time from a reference clock. The time server can be of a local network or an internet GPS time as the reference clock for NTP. (Use the ntp rfclock gps command.)
- Primary Network Time Sever: This is a designated server that is reachable by the device whose function is to manage network resources.
- Secondary Network Time Server: This is a designated server to serve as a backup whose function is to manage network resources.
To configure DNS/NTP settings:
- (Required) Enter the Primary LAN DNS IP Address.
- (Required) Enter the Secondary LAN DNS IP Address.
- (Required) Select the Time via NTP or select the Time Zone.
- (Optional) Enter the Primary Network Time Server.
- (Optional) Enter the Secondary Network Time Server.
- Click Save to your settings. (Note: Clicking Save will save the existing settings and a "success" notice opens in the bottom right corner stating that the group template has been updated.)
Note: The NTP clock can also be set manually. Refer to Configuring NTP using GPS Time.
