Track device location
Alert: Cisco has made the end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Cisco Edge Device Manager (EDM).
Use Location History to view the location of your GPS-enabled network devices on a map over time. For example, you can see a vehicle's path over a one-hour span on a specific day.
Enable location history
You can enable location tracking for a configuration group of devices. Before you begin, create a configuration group for your devices. See Create Configuration Group, if necessary.
- From the left pane, click Configuration.
- Click the Groups tab.
- Select an existing group name to open the details page.
- Click Edit Group.
- Click the Properties tab.
- Click Location Tracking Settings and revise the following settings.
a. Enable Location Tracking History: Turns tracking on or off.
b. Location streaming rate: The number of seconds between location tracking updates.
c. Distance Threshold: The change in distance before the device reports a new location update.
- Click Save.
Track location history
In the left menu, click Operations > Location History.
Select a device, and then select the end date and time.
You can view one hour in this release. The start date and time automatically adjust.
Use the map controls to zoom in or out, or adjust the visible map.
Hover over the start or end location to view device details at that time and place.
For example: The device path color indicates the cellular signal strength according to the legend in the map lower left. Grey means the data is not available.
Zoom in to the path to see additional places (represented by white dots) where device information is available.
(Optional) Select the Snap to path box to correct the path on the map.
For example, if the path displays as a straight line, select this option so it follows the road.
Note: You can also access Location History in the Dashboard. Click Dashboard, scroll down to the map and select a device, click Location History.
