Edit the configuration for a specific network device

Alert: Cisco has made the end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Cisco Edge Device Manager (EDM).

You can edit the configuration settings for a specific device, if necessary. Configuration changes to offline devices will be applied when the device comes back online.

This can be useful to apply a unique configuration to a specific device, or to test a configuration on a single device before pushing it to the entire device group.

You can:

  • Save a new configuration to a device. These changes are not applied to it until you Push Configuration.
  • Save & Push the configuration changes you make to the device.

Important notes:

  • IMPORTANT: The group-level configuration settings always take precedence over the single-device configuration.
  • The feature Enabled/Disabled setting at the group level takes precedence over the individual device setting.
  • CAVEAT: Currently, settings that are made only at group-level can be edited for a single-device, but the individual device changes are not applied. These fields are read-only.

Procedure:

  1. In the device Group configuration:

    1. Enable the feature.
    2. Select the option Provide setting per device. Only fields that have this setting at the group level can be modified for an individual device. See Create Configuration Group.
  2. To edit a setting for a single device, click Inventory and select a device name.

  3. Click the Device Configuration tab.

  4. Click Edit Config.

Note: Change the settings as required ONLY for the fields which have been pre-set as "per device" in group-level configuration. The feature's Enabled/Disabled setting at the group level takes precedence over the individual device setting.

  5. Click Next to Review and save your changes.

  6. Click Save to apply the changes later. Click Save & Push to apply the changes now.

  7. (Optional) Click Push Configuration to apply changes that were previously saved.

The changes are immediately pushed to online devices and applied to offline devices when they come back online.

Note: To change the configuration for all devices in a group, see Create Configuration Group.
